GFN 2025 Delphi Consensus

Prof. Pasquale Caponnetto, researcher at CoEHAR, took part in a panel dedicated to the Delphi method during the 2025 edition of the Global Forum on Nicotine (GFN), currently taking place in Warsaw through June 21

The 12th edition of the GFN—the largest international meeting focused on harm reduction research and reduced-risk nicotine products- is currently taking place in Warsaw.

The event is open to professionals from the scientific, pharmaceutical, medical, and manufacturing sectors, attracting hundreds of attendees each year and fostering the exchange of ideas and collaboration across different fields.

As usual, CoEHAR representatives took the opportunity offered by GFN to present the latest developments in the research carried out by the Catania-based center, now recognized as a leading institution in the field of harm reduction.

This year, Prof. Pasquale Caponnetto, professor of clinical psychology at the University of Catania and member of CoEHAR, joined a workshop dedicated to the application of the Delphi method in the field of nicotine research and related risks. The Delphi method is an investigative technique that involves a panel of experts engaging in multiple rounds of evaluation, with the goal of reaching a consensus on a specific topic.

In January 2025, Prof. Caponnetto, together with experts from various Italian universities, published the results of the first survey conducted using the Delphi method in the field of tobacco control policies and reduced-risk products.

The GFN event represented also an opportunity to present the Genesis protocol, a study that introduces a health empowerment tool aimed at a population that has so far been largely overlooked in smoking cessation protocols: patients with schizophrenia.
