On Wednesday, October 30, Catania will host the 2024 CoEHAR conference dedicated to the “annual results of the research on tobacco harm reduction”. Among the international guests who will join the 2024 event, the members of the Annual Meeting on Addiction.
The conference, organized in collaboration with the Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine of the University of Catania and LIAF (Italian Anti-Smoking League), represents an important gathering for leading experts on the effects of traditional smoking and the outcomes of research applied to alternative nicotine delivery devices, such as electronic cigarettes and heated tobacco products.
This year, the CoEHAR event will include a panel featuring a group of international experts and researchers in the field of addiction: researchers and clinicians from some of the research centers of prestigious American universities, including the Moffitt Cancer Center, Dartmouth College, George Washington University, and the Milken Institute School of Public Health.
“As every year, Catania becomes the stage for a day entirely dedicated to harm reduction, with the goal of presenting the latest scientific research developments in the field,” explains Prof. Giovanni Li Volti, CoEHAR Director. “We have decided to include the conference as part of the activities organized for the Annual Meeting on Addiction, an important gathering for the international scientific community related to the addiction research, which for the first time ever is being hosted in Italy.”
“Scientific research on harm reduction strategies has reached a crucial turning point, where it is no longer possible to ignore the information on new frontiers represented by modified-risk devices,” continues Prof. Polosa. “Once again this year, the meeting with colleagues from the scientific community on harm reduction will allow us to capture the current state of research, adding even more significant answers about the benefits that reduced-risk devices can bring to dental health, vision, and the improvement of diabetes. There will also be a focus on new technologies and the application of AI systems in smoking cessation therapies.”
The 25 speakers at the CoEHAR Conference will present the results of the most innovative studies of the past year in every multidisciplinary field of harm reduction. The day will be moderated by Sicilian journalist Luca Ciliberti, alongside Prof. Giovanni Li Volti, Prof. Riccardo Polosa, many members of CoEHAR, and several government representatives.
